Gwendolyn Neal Chmurny

Dr. Gwendolyn Neal Chmurny, 86, of Frederick, Maryland, passed from this life on Saturday, August 24, 2024. She was the beloved mother of her daughter, Chmurny Linda Cain, and the loved wife of the late Dr. Alan Bruce Chmurny.

Born on October 22, 1937, in Gulfport, Mississippi, she was the daughter of the late Walter Olan Neal and Edna Earl Neal (Cooley).

Dr. Gwen was known worldwide in the elite scientific scene. Her work at Pfizer in Grotton, Connecticut and at the National Cancer Institute at Fort Detrick in Frederick, Maryland was groundbreaking in the field of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy. Her love of people, animals, miniatures, and literature ran deep in her soul. Laughter and a tremendous sense of humor lit up any room…until the very end of her life!

Gwen crossed the rainbow bridge to join her beloved dog Tangle. She was surrounded by her friends and loved ones, with the Sound of Music playing for her.

She is survived by her daughter Chmurny Linda Cain and Chmurn’s husband Justin Wade Stone and by her best friend Dr. Joseph Hrabie. Gwen will be greatly missed. She touched many people on this earth.
