Mr. Gregory J. Purtell, 68, of Mt. Airy, MD passed away on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at Gilchrist Hospice, Towson. He was the husband of Mildred C. Purtell.
He was born on March 25, 1942 in Beloit, WI, the son of Mary Booth Purtell of Hartford, WI, and the late John Purtell.
Mr. Purtell was a Computer Consultant who loved developing customized software for his clients. He was an avid gardener, had a love for all animals, was creative with electronics, computers and gadgets, and was always working on various projects. Greg served in the U. S. Air Force as a Staff Sergeant and was active during the Vietnam conflict during the 1960’s. He was a member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion.
Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are his children: Kathleen Purtell of Mt. Airy, Karen Purtell of Columbia, and William Purtell of Mt. Airy. Brothers and their wives: Gerald and Virginia Purtell, Gilbert and Jean Purtell, Gordon and Leslie Purtell, John and Melana Purtell, Gene and Jolene Purtell, and Brother, Michael Purtell. Sisters and their husbands: Mary Ann and Steve Solberg and Eileen and Jeff Schmidt. Brother-in-law, Samuel Vojtek and wife Geraldine Samek-Vojtek. Sister-in-law, Evelyn Gronosky. Also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 6-9pm on Friday, February 25, 2011 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 East Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy, MD. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 26, at 11am. Interment will be private.
