Granville T. Easterday, Jr., 78, of Mt. Lena, Maryland died on Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at his home, following a long illness.

Born on December 9, 1930 in Washington County , Maryland, he was the son of the late Granville T. and Ruth N. (Toms) Easterday.

Mr. Easterday was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War.

He retired from Pangborn Corporation after 42 years of service and worked for 34 years as a grain and cattle farmer.

Mr Easterday was a member of Mt. Lena United Methodist Church and the Clopper-Michael Post 10 American Legion in Boonsboro, Maryland.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Phyllis I. (Brandenburg) Easterday; one son, John G. Easterday and wife Carol of Mt. Lena;  one daughter, Sandra J. and her husband Rick Stevens of Boonsboro, Maryland; six grandchildren, Chad E. Easterday and his wife Katie;  Mike Shobe; Aaron Easterday; Janine Suffecool and her husband Douglas; Janelle Weddle and her husband Jeremiah; and Julie Stevens; four great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Madilyn Easterday and Noah and Elijah Weddle.  He is also survived by two brothers and three sisters, Leonard Easterday, Shirley Schroyer, Jacob Easterday, Catherine Moser, and Beverly Weigand.

Mr. Easterday was preceded in death by one brother, Ronald "Buzz" Easterday.

Friends may visit beginning at 12 Noon on Thursday, December 10, 2009 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home where family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m.

A graveside ceremony will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, December 11, 2009 at the Mt. Lena United Methodist Church Cemetery. Rev. Ray W. Dudley will officiate.
