Grant Byrd

January 23, 1934 — December 6, 2014

Grant A. Byrd,  80, of Frederick, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, December 6, 2014,  at Northampton Manor in Frederick, Maryland, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on January 23, 1934, in Rectortown, Virginia, he was the son of the late Eugene and Mattie (Tynes) Byrd.

He was a veteran of the United States Army from 1956 until 1959.

Grant retired as a manager with Grove Cement Company, after many years of dedicated service.

He was  a member of  the International Community Church in Frederick, Maryland

Grant loved to spend time his family.  He also enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling, politics, and was the Washington Redskins #1 fan.

He is survived by his loving wife, Doris (Gray) Byrd, whom he married on January 30, 1955; his seven daughters, Bonnie Green and husband, Lewis, of Las Vegas, Vivian Peyton of Burtonsville, Maryland, Robin Pazo of Florida, LaJuan Jackson of Minnesota, Eunice Byrd of Burtonsville, Maryland, Ellen Jones and husband, Charles, of Texas, and Katrina Jones and husband, Jeffrey, of Bowie, Maryland; four sons, Gregory Byrd of Frederick, Grayling Byrd and wife, Keisha, of Olney, Maryland, Mark Byrd and wife, Irene, of Indiana, and Pernell Byrd of Washington D.C. He is also survived by his brother, William Byrd of Massachusetts; twenty grandchildren,  nine great-grandchildren, with one on the way; and seven godchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three sisters, Mattie, Juanita, and Alfrieda; his two brothers, Eugene and Charles; and his grandson, David Martin.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 11, 2014, at Stauffer Funeral Homes, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick  Maryland 21702.   Bishop Jerry Price and Pastor Alicia Byrd will officiate.  Final resting-place ceremonies will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Frederick, with military honors rendered by the Maryland National Honor Guard, Army Branch.

Family will receive friends two hours prior to the service on Thursday, December 11, 2014, at the funeral home.
