Mrs. Grace Naomi Rowe Freeze, 96 of Thurmont died Monday, May 14, 2007 at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Edgar Merriman Freeze.
Born at her home in Eylers's Valley on April 9, 1911 she was the daughter of the late Pauline Elizabeth (Clabaugh) and Elmer Trit Rowe. Grace attended nursing school at George Washington University and served as a private duty nurse. She operated her own day care for children for over 35 years and was the oldest licensed day care provider when she stopped at age 86 in Frederick County.
Grace was the oldest living member of Weller United Methodist Church. She belonged to the American Legion Auxillary in Thurmont. In her leisure time she enjoyed gardening and passing her knowledge of gardening on to others.
Survivors include two daughters, Joan Carolyn Freeze of Thurmont, and Sharon Dewees of Frederick; a son, James M. Freeze of Ocala, FL; she is also survived by three grandsons and thirteen great grandchildren. Grace was also preceded in death by a son, Warren Henry Freeze, a grandson, Harry Edgar Freeze and a sister, Gladys Rowe Portner.
Visitation: The family will receive friends on Friday from 6 until 8 PM at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont, MD.
Services: Services will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2007 at 11:00 AM at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont, Md with Rev. Richard Broome officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Cemetery, Thurmont.
