Mrs. Grace E. Crandall, age 84 of Middletown, passed away in her home on Sat., Nov. 14th, 2015.
Born Jan. 26, 1931 in Pittsburgh, Pa., she was the only child of the late William and Eleanor Summerville. As a child, Grace performed as a singer on a Washington D.C. area radio program. She was a 1947 graduate of Maryland Park High School, where she met her husband of 33 years. Although most of her life was devoted to raising her five children, Grace also worked as a substitute teacher in Oxon Hill, Md, and as a secretary for George Washington University. She was a gifted singer and musician who loved to collect photographs of friends and family.
Grace is survived by three daughters, Caren Babst of Hagerstown, Colette Gibbard of Hagerstown, Carol Crandall of Myersville; one son, Lewis Crandall Jr. of Middletown; cousin Louise Wright of Alexandria, Va.; 10 grand-children and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Crandall, and her daughter, Candace Byrum.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sat., Nov. 21, at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, Boonsboro, with Pastor John H. Dean officiating, and a reception to follow at Benevola United Methodist Church. Direct cremation has been chosen.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Hospice of Frederick County, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, or a charity of your choice that would honor Grace’s memory.
