Mr. Gordon H. Anderson, 90, of Frederick, MD died on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at his residence. He was the husband of Barbara Hamill Anderson, his wife of 40 years.
Born in Girard, Ohio he was the son of the late August H. and Rose Zeller Anderson. Gordon worked for the Niles Daily Times, in Niles, Ohio as Editor retiring in 1983 after 35 years of service. He served in the Merchant Marines during WWII and was discharged from the U.S. Coast Guard. Gordon was very community minded: in Ohio, he served on the Board of Directors of the American Red Cross, Family Service Association, United Way and American Heart Association and sang with his church choir for over 20 years. After retirement Gordon and his wife moved to Florida for 16 years where he volunteered with Hospice of Florida Sun Coast and sang in the Barbershop Chorus in Clearwater. In 2003 they moved to Frederick and he continued his volunteer work with Frederick Meals on Wheels. He enjoyed traveling, camping and playing Duplicate Bridge.
Surviving in addition to his wife are daughters: Ruth Sofranko and husband Robert of Florida, Peggy Creasy of Florida, a son, David Anderson and wife Patti of Ohio as well as step children: Deborah Guy and husband John of Maryland, Suzanne Schnarrs and husband Richard of W. Virginia, Michael Bradley and wife Jeannie of California and Jacie Claeys and husband Paul of Texas; 10 grandchildren,12 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 28th, at All Saints Episcopal Church, 106 W. Church St., Frederick with the Rev. Thomas Rogers III officiating.
Interment will be private.
