Mr. Glenn L. Nikirk, 84, of Thurmont, Maryland, passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at his home. He was the husband of Bonnie Wastler Nikirk, his wife of 61 years.
Born August 19, 1929 in Frederick, Maryland, he was the son of the late Glenn Travis and Rose Alexander Nikirk.
Mr. Nikirk was a 1947 graduate of Frederick High School. He joined the Navy in 1948 and served in the Korean War. He worked for the town of Thurmont and the City of Frederick, as an administrative assistant, retiring in 1992. He was a member of Garfield UM Church, a life member of the Guardian Hose Co. #10 and the Edwin C. Creeger Jr. Post #168 American Legion, a member of South Mt. Rod and Gun Club and AMVETS #7.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a brother Welty Nikirk , a sister Shirley Rippeon both of Maryland and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers Ronnie and Travis Nikirk.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont, Maryland on Tuesday, December 3, from 204 and 6-8 pm, where services will be held Wednesday, December 4, at 11:00 am.
Interment Blue Ridge Cemetery
Honorary pallbearers Johnny Willard and Bill Rice.
