Glenn Haynes

Glenn C. Haynes, 93, of Boonsboro, Maryland, died peacefully at his home in the early morning hours of Sunday, June 16, 2013.

Born on November 19, 1919, in Rohrersville, Maryland, he was the second son of David Harold and Elsie (Haines) Haynes.  Glenn married his high school sweetheart Charlotte (Nicodemus) Haynes in 1941 and they were married for 59 years at the time of her death in 2000.

He graduated from Boonsboro High School in 1938 and was employed at Fairchild Industries in Hagerstown.

Glenn was a World War II Veteran, serving in the Quartermaster Headquarters, 3rd Army in the European Theatre, and was honorably discharged in 1946.

He was employed by the United States Postal Service in 1957 and was the first letter carrier for the town of Boonsboro.  He became the Postmaster for Boonsboro in 1970, and served in that position until his retirement in 1983.

Glenn was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church for over 65 years and sang in the church choir for many years. He was a 70 year member and Past Master of the Antietam Lodge 197, A.F. & A.M. of Keedysville, Maryland; Past Patron and member of the Hagerstown Chapter 89 Order of the Eastern Star; Past Grand Patron (1959-60) of the State of Maryland Order of the Easter Star; life member of Hagerstown Forest 95 Tall Cedars of Lebanon; and life member of Clopper-Michael American Legion Post 10 in Boonsboro.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Oliver-Haynes; one step-daughter, Karen; and two step-grandchildren, Lauren and Nevin. He is also survived by his younger brother, Richard Haynes, of Rohrersville, as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Carroll Haynes, formerly of Hagerstown.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday June 20, 2013, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 64 South Main Street, Boonsboro, Maryland. The Rev. Joseph I. Donovan, III will officiate. Final resting place ceremonies will follow at the Boonsboro Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro.  A Masonic Memorial Service will be held at 7 p.m. followed by a service by the Order of the Eastern Star.
