Glendora Virginia (Cunningham) Palmer, 94, a resident of Somerford Place in Hagerstown, Maryland, passed away on Monday, February 21, 2011 at the Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown.
Born on March 3, 1916 in Mapleville, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late William Albert Evers and Gertrude Anna Florence (Gantz) Cunningham. Her husband of sixty two years, Claude Franklin Palmer preceded her in death on June 13, 1999.
Mrs. Palmer was a resident of Mapleville, Maryland for eighty nine years and lived at Somerford Place for the last six years. She attended Boonsboro High School.
Glendora was first employed at the post office and store in Mapleville and also worked on the family farm. She went on to work for sixteen years at Reisner Organ Works in Hagerstown, after which she was briefly employed at Rosens Department Store. She retired in 1978 from Town and Country Foodland where she worked as the deli manager.
Mrs. Palmer was a member of Mount Nebo United Methodist Church where she was a former sunday school teacher.
When she was young, she was an accomplished berry picker and could pick two hundred fifty boxes in a day. She loved to travel with her husband and they toured forty three of the forty eight continental United States and parts of Canada.
Glendora is survived by her son, Wayne L. Palmer and his wife, Linda of Parkville, Maryland; three grandchildren, Collene D. Palmer of Cambridge, Maryland, Gregory W. Palmer and his wife, Wendy of Keswick, Virginia, and Todd M. Palmer and his wife, Ginger of Westminster, Maryland; and two great-grandchildren, Kennedy and Taylor. She is also survived by one niece, four grand-nephews, and many cousins.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 25, 2011 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland with the Rev. Robert G. Brennan, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Boonsboro Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 24, 2011 at the funeral home.
