Gladys Mae Poole, 90, of Frederick, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 4 at Frederick Memorial Hospital while under hospice care. Born on December 20, 1926, in Middletown, she was the daughter of Grayson Guy Toms and Bessie Mae (Bowlus) Toms. She was the wife of the late George W. Poole, Jr.
Mrs. Poole enjoyed cooking and entertaining, including spending time with family and friends. She loved playing cards and games and traveling with Holland America cruises and Frederick Bus Tours as a past member of the 55+ club.
She is survived by her children, Patricia A. Rhoderick and husband Craig, Sharon L. Tamburello and husband Nicholas and George W. Poole III and wife Junko; grandchildren Eileen Keyser and husband Calvin, Cheryl Mulligan and husband Chris, Niki Gray, Jodi Barnum and husband Jared and Sean Poole as well as four great-grandchildren: Ridgely Gray, Jolie Gray, Huxley Barnum and Ainsley Barnum. She is also survived by siblings Mary E. Remsberg, Rebecca T. Evanger and June Griffith. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Donald L. Toms and Daniel H. Toms.
Flowers are welcomed or memorial contributions may be made to Smithsburg Valley Church, Hospice of Frederick County, Partners in Care, Right At Home, AMADA Senior Care or Middletown AMVETS Post #9.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 9 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 10 at 10:30 AM at the funeral home, Pastor Allen Youngbar will officiate. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
