Girija Shukla

December 31, 1952 — November 6, 2018

Girija Shanker Shukla, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away at the age of 65 on Tuesday, November 6th, 2018.

Born in India on December 31, 1952, Girija was the eldest son of the late Sohan Lal Shukla and Pushpa Lata (Pathak) Shukla.

Girija earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi, India in 1976 and completed his Masters of Science in Nuclear Engineering at the State University of New York (SUNY) Buffalo in 1979.

Girija spent his life creating and fulfilling his own American dream. His professional career as a nuclear engineer spanned power plants in Texas, Virginia, Ohio, Michigan, and Florida. Most recently, Girija spent over 17 years at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission in Washington DC, where he served on several advisory committees and in various leadership roles.

In his free time Girija, affectionately known as Giri, loved everything that added to the vibrancy of life: an avid traveler, passionate photographer, spicy food lover, and movie fanatic. Every morning started with reading his favorite newspaper, The Washington Post.

Girija is survived by his very proud family: his wife of 38 years, Beenu, his daughters Deepika and Devna, his son-in-law Vikas, and his grandson Jaiden.

A celebration of life will be held for Girija on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702.

A Memorial Fund has been setup in Girija's name at www.gofundme.com/GirijaShuklaFund.
