Mr. Gilbert Filmore Meekins died Monday, February 28, 2011 at the Glade Valley Nursing Home after a long battle with dementia.
The family would first like to thank the staff at Glade Valley for their attention to his comfort, and well being over the years.
Gil is a Navy veteran having served in the Pacific on the USS Hancock in WWII. He was an artist by trade for The United Way of America as the art director. Then retired to Midwatch Point in Virginia's Northern Neck.
Gil is predeceased by his wife Antoinette Charuhas Meekins and son Gilbert F. Meekins Jr., and leaves behind R. Dudley and Cindy Meekins, J. Kimberly Meekins and partner John Stracke, Frank M. and Betty Meekins. He also leaves grandchildren Michael, Michelle, Daniel, Timothy, Nicholas, Lauren, and Madison.
The family will be receiving family and friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Thursday, March 3rd from 7-9 pm. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 4th at 1pm at the funeral home with Christopher Bisett officiating.
A brief Internment ceremony will be at at the Cople Parish Cemetery in Virginia Saturday, March 5th at 1pm.
