Gideon Lee Willard, age 85, of Thurmont, Maryland, passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at Frederick Health Hospital.
Born on November 26, 1938, in Thurmont, he was the son of the late Herbert and Mary Anders Willard.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Alta Fogle Willard; his son, Rickey Lee Willard of Thurmont; a granddaughter, Sarah Baker and husband, Logan; and a great-granddaughter, Cora May Baker. He is also survived by sisters, Betty Willard and Ella Raby; sisters-in-law, Emma Catherine Abrecht, Mary Ellen Crum and husband, Gary, and Barbara Willard; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Willard was preceded in death by brothers, Kenneth Willard, David Willard, Howard Willard and Steven Willard; sister-in-law, Nancy Willard; and brothers-in-law, Lee Willard and Herbert Abrecht.
Mr. Willard was very talented in his work career which consisted of carpentry and masonry. He had a keen eye for accuracy and would always strive for perfection in all his endeavors. Most of his employment was with his father's, Herbert Willard, construction company.
He enjoyed hunting deer and for 25 years camping at the Woodsmen's Festival in Potter County, Pennsylvania. He especially enjoyed visiting with old camping friends and watching the bears that frequented the campground.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 East Main Street in Thurmont.
Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at the funeral home in Thurmont. Rev. Tim May will officiate. Burial will be held in the family plot at Mount Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Foxville.
