Gerry Lewis Monroe, 54, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 20, 2017. He was the son of Marian Hakala and the late Ralph Monroe. Born in Washington, DC, he attended Tampa Prep and graduated from the University of Maryland. Gerry and his wife, Val, were married for almost 20 years.
Gerry was a proud Air Force retiree; he served for over 20 years as an intelligence analyst in places such as Misawa, Chicksands, Offut, and RAF Menwith Hill. His follow-on career as a software engineer culminated with nearly 14 happy years at Buan Consulting.
Gerry was a "bustin’ at the seams" proud dad of his daughter, Sarah, whom he loved with all his heart. His desire for her was to be the best woman of God she could be and the best writer of science fiction/fantasy possible. He was so proud of the stories she wrote, and the emotional insights she created for her characters. He leaves behind a heart-broken wife, Val, whom he married in May 1997 after a courtship that began across a TIBS machine; his mother, Marian; brother Kevin; and sisters Virginia and Sheryl.
Gerry will be remembered most for his wicked sense of humor and his willingness to always work behind-the-scenes at church. His hobbies included restoring his dream car, a 1965 Caprice; using his dream truck to help friends and family; and a life-long fascination with science and sci-fi.
The funeral service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 27, 2017, at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, followed by a reception at Monocacy Valley Church in Ijamsville, MD.
Live Long and Prosper, in Jesus’ name.
