Geraldine "Gerry" Catlin

Mrs. Geraldine "Gerry" Young Catlin, 91, of Frederick, formerly of Derwood, died peacefully Saturday, May 23, 2015 at Homewood at Crumland Farms. She was the loving wife of the late James E. Catlin for 60 years until his death in 2007.

Born August 17, 1923 in Smithville, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Delma (Adcock) Young.

Early in her work career, she was a secretary at Goodyear Tire. She became a wonderful homemaker and mother while raising their two sons. Gerry and Jim lived in Akron, Ohio, before spending many years in the Rockville/Gaithersburg area.

Together with her husband, they were founding members of Redland Baptist Church in Derwood, where she was a Sunday School teacher and active volunteer. At one time, Gerry was a school nurse's assistant.

Gerry adored her family and greatly enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren.

She is survived by two sons, Dave Catlin and wife, Theresa, of New Market; and Jeff Catlin and wife, Judy, of Grasonville; three grandchildren, Craig, Andrew and Michael; and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Wayne Young, and a sister, Lois McKay.

A memorial service celebrating Gerry's life will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at the chapel at Homewood at Crumland Farms, 7407 Willow Road, Frederick, MD 21702.

A private service of inurnment will be held for Gerry and Jim at Hillside Cemetery in Akron at a later date.
