Gerald Everett Wheeler, 80, of Frederick, Maryland died Friday, May 15, 2015 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Martinsburg, West Virginia.
Born June 28, 1934 in Great Falls, Montana, he was the son of the late Marcella Lucille (Gartzka) and Willard Mark Wheeler.
Retiring after over 27 years as a hospital administrator, Lieutenant Colonel Wheeler honorably served in the United States Army.
He graduated from Montana State University and the George Washington University in Washington, DC with a Master's Degree. An industrial arts teacher, Mr. Wheeler taught at Frederick High School for 10 years.
Mr. Wheeler was a member of People's Baptist Church and the Frederick Artisan Guild. He enjoyed western Montana and, for the past 15 years, over the summer, enjoyed riding horses and hiking. He supported his wife and her family, who were from Korea, to the United States and contributed to their successful life.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Chae Tok Wheeler; son, Jae Sun Wheeler; and sister, Dolores Axman.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 20, 2015 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, May 21, 2015 at the funeral home with Pastor Kent Ramler officiating. Burial will be at a later date, with military honors, at Arlington National Cemetery.
