Gerald Miss died June 28 in Mount Airy, Maryland, after an extended illness. Jerry was born in Frederick, Maryland, September 30, 1950, the youngest son of Robert E. Miss, Sr., and Anna Pazdersky Miss. He was a graduate St. John’s Parochial School and St. John’s Literary Institution at Prospect Hall. He also attended the Art Institute of York in Pennsylvania. As an award-winning artist with a number of successful shows, Jerry opened an art school in Frederick on East Patrick Street. He operated the school through the 1980s before joining the US Postal Service. His most recent employment was at Damascus Community Bank. However, Jerry continued his art work through his entire life, taking on commissions, and often creating sculptures, cards, calendars, sketches and paintings for friends and family. Many of his creations reflected Jerry’s wry and sophisticated sense of humor. His love of word-play also spilled over into his humorous poems.
Gerald Miss is survived by three brothers, Robert Miss of Dobbs Ferry, NY; James Miss of Mount Dora, Florida; and Thomas Miss of Douglas, Georgia. Ms. Patricia Lockard of Mount Airy was his constant friend and caregiver during his protracted illness. The employees of Damascus Community Bank were also very generous and supportive. The family is very appreciative and thankful for all the support and care he received. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on July 27, 2012 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702. Interment will be private.
