Gerald “Jerry” Longacre, a beloved and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, passed away on August 20, 2024, at the age of 87. Born in Stockton, CA, to Alice (nee Rodgers) and Orval Longacre, Jerry lived a life filled with love and laughter.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Barbara, whose unwavering love and companionship were a testament to their enduring bond. Jerry also leaves behind daughter Lynette Dhillon of Redondo Beach, CA, son and daughter-in-law Jeffrey and Lisa Longacre of Ashton, MD, four grandchildren (Matthew, Brian, Kevin, and Christopher), and four great-grandchildren (Evelyn “Ellie”, Natalie “Bingo”, Michael “Spike”, and Sylvia “The Little One”), all of whom brought immense joy and purpose to his life.
He lived life to the fullest, enjoying international travel, camping, hunting, fishing, sports, and riding motorcycles. Whether it was family events or on the links with golf friends, he was the glue that held family and friends together. After a career working for Challenge Dairy in the Stockton area, Jerry and Barbara moved to Maryland from California in 1999 in order to actively participate in every aspect of their grandchildren's lives, never missing a ballgame, event, or activity with them.
Jerry's memory will be forever cherished by all who knew him. His gentle spirit, warm smile, kind heart, and playful sense of humor touched the lives of countless people. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love will continue to inspire and guide his family and friends for generations to come.
Funeral services, to include a 10:00 AM viewing and 11:00 AM Mass, will both occur in the Historic Chapel at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 1125 St. Michael’s Road, Mount Airy, Maryland, on Monday, August 26, 2024.
