Gerald Castle

Gerald James Castle, 88, of Boonsboro, Maryland, passed from this life on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at his home while surrounded by his family.

Born on December 13, 1924, in Keedysville, Maryland, he was the son of the late Russell J. and Mamie Pearl (Smith) Castle.  His wife, Goldie Lee (Chapman) Castle, preceded him in death in 2007.

He was a veteran of World War II having served in the United States Army in Berlin, Germany.  He was fluent in German and was an interpreter for his squad.

Gerald worked as a farmer for his entire life and also retired in 1985 from Mack Truck after 25 years of employment.

He was a member of the Clopper-Michael American Legion Post 10 in Boonsboro and was formerly a member of the Moose Lodge in Hagerstown.

He is survived by one daughter, Teresa A. Reiff and husband James of Boonsboro; three sons, Roger D. Castle and wife Carolyn of Shenandoah Junction, West Virginia, Terry L. Castle and wife Kathy, and Tim W. Castle and wife Sandi, all of Boonsboro; and one sister, Mildred Busick of Baltimore, Maryland.  He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, Twelve great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Gerald was preceded in death by one son, Gerald R. Castle; four brothers, John G. Castle, Sr., Lewis O. Castle, Robert L. Castle, Sr., and Arlington Castle; and one grandson, Bryan K. Castle.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 10, 2013 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro.  Rev. Dean Pryor will officiate.  Final resting place ceremonies will follow at the Boonsboro Cemetery with Military Honors rendered by the Clopper-Michael American Legion from Boonsboro.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at the funeral home.
