George Martin Merchant

Mr. George Martin Merchant, 79, of Brunswick died on Saturday, August 1, 2009 at Lansdowne Hospital, Leesburg, VA. He was the husband of Evelyn Marie Hale Merchant, his wife of 34 years.

Born on December 2, 1929, in Taylorstown, VA he was the son of the late Lanna and Mozelle Wilt Merchant.

George was a medical lab technician for the U.S. Government, starting at N.I.H. and retiring in 1969 from Ft. Detrick. He also worked for LS Fuel and Brunswick Citgo for more than 20 years.

Mr. Merchant served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, was a member of the Brunswick American Legion as well as the Brunswick Moose and Eagles. He was a very outgoing person, enjoyed being around people, befriending everyone he met and loved playing practical jokes on them. George will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Martin Merchant and wife Jamie of Las Cruces, NM, a daughter, Nancy Merchant Langley of Brunswick; 5 grandchildren: Martin Merchant, Jr, George Merchant, Anthony Merchant, Charity Winn and Kelly Rhea Langley; 4 great grandchildren: Matthew, Celeste, Aurora and Tommy; a brother, Paul Merchant and wife Dorothy, a sister, Kathryn Baker and husband Allen all of Taylorstown, VA; sister-in-laws: Pearl Merchant of Baltimore and Virginia Routzahn and husband Lester of Rosemont; as well as his 2 beloved dogs: Dixie and Emmie.

Mr. Merchant was preceded in death by a brother, Kenny Merchant.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Tuesday, August 4, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1100 N. Maple Avenue, Brunswick..

Services:
Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, August 5, Pastor Tommy Siglar officiating.

Interment will take place in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Jefferson with co-workers from LS Fuel/Citgo: Richard Agoris Charles Beall, Stevean Beall, Steve Best, Robert Fritz, Michael Hensley and Mike Zubajlo serving as pallbearers.
