George "Fred" McGolerick

George Frederick "Fred" McGolerick, 85 , of Keedysville, Maryland, died on Tuesday April 12, 2011 at his home.

Born on July 10, 1925, in Garretts Mills, Maryland, he was the son of the late Emory Carlton and Freida Mae (Mirely) McGolerick.  His wife, Evelyn Louise (Holmes) McGolerick preceded him in death on December 12, 2005.

Fred was employed for 41 years as a heavy equipment operator with Lone Star Cement Company in Hagerstown.

Fred loved to hunt and bowl.  He played baseball with the Weverton, Boonsboro and Keedysville teams in the Independent and South Mountain Leagues.  He played softball with the St. Mark's Lions in the Hagerstown Commercial League and soccer with the Boonsboro team in the Washington County League.  He managed the Weverton baseball team for five years and coached Boonsboro soccer for three years.  He was a lifetime member of the North American Rod and Gun Club and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #1136 in Brunswick.  He belonged to the Masonic Salem Lodge #196 A.F. & A.M. and the Clopper-Michael American Legion Post #10 in Boonsboro.  Fred was also a member of the Brownsville Church of the Brethren.

He is survived by two daughters, Brenda J. Hassinger and her husband James F. of Hagerstown, and Mary Frances Pearson and her husband Gary S. of Trego, Maryland; one son, Ronald L. McGolerick and his wife Bonnie L. of Trego; and two grandchildren, Shelley A. Sine and her husband Rodney W. of Fredericksburg, Virginia and Holly S. Nicodemus and her husband Douglas C. of Trego.  He is also survived by his great-granddaughter Charlotte Louise Nicodemus.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Fred was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Van Atta and Ethel Holderman.

The family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 15, 2011 with a funeral ceremony beginning at 11 a.m. at the Brownsville Church of the Brethren, 1911 Rohrersville Road, Brownsville, Maryland.  Rev. Alan M. Smith, Father George Limmer and Chaplain Michael Seger will officiate.  Burial services will be held privately at Fairview Cemetery in Keedysville, Maryland.
