George E. Kline, 79, of Sharpsburg, Maryland, died on Sunday, August 2, 2009 at the Washington County Hospital.



Born on April 18, 1930, in Wolfsville, Maryland, he was the son of the late Merle R. and Mary E. (Delauter) Kline.



Mr. Kline was a 20 year veteran of the US Navy, serving during the Vietnam War and the Korean Conflict.



George retired in 1990 after 22 years as a Stationary Engineer with the Maryland Correctional Training Center in Hagerstown.  He attended the Chestnut Grove Bible Church in Keedysville, Maryland.



He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty L. (Grim) Kline; three children, Michael E. Kline of Oceanside, California, Donna J. and her husband Clark Myers of Woodbridge, Virginia, and Thomas M. Kline and his wife Judy of Dillsburg, Pennsylvania; one brother, Howard C. Kline and his wife Jane of New Market, Virginia;  four sisters, Doris L. Reel of Hagerstown, Maryland, Peggy M. and her husband Boyd Frushour, Nancy Warrenfeltz and Dorothy J. Harshman all of Smithsburg; and four grandchildren, Jared Myers, Deanna Myers King and Travis and Trevor Kline.  He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.



Mr. Kline was preceded in death by three brothers, Richard M., Gareth W. and Maynard L. Kline.



Services will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2009, at 10 a.m., at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland.  Interment will be in the Samples Manor Cemetery, Sharpsburg, Maryland.



Friends are invited to visit on Friday, August 7, 2009, beginning at 9 am at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m.
