George "Beast" Brust

August 21, 1942 — November 24, 2016

George William "Beast" Brust, 74, of Feagaville, suffered a medical emergency while driving and died as a result on Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 2016. He was the husband of the late Carol Ann Lucille "Cookie" Clark Brust, who passed away 6 years ago on November 5, 2010 after 49 years of marriage. Born in Frederick, MD he was predeceased by parents Bernhardt Alfred Hermann Brust Jr. and Eleanor Mae Kemp Brust. Mr. Brust grew up in the Feagaville area and attended Frederick High School (1961), and married his high school sweetheart.

He was a past member of the Adamstown United Church of Christ and Carroll Manor Volunteer Fire Department in Adamstown. He grew up in and is still a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Frederick and served in the National Guard, Company A, Infantry 115th. In his early years he dairy farmed in Frederick County while working part time for Gladhill Meats in Damascus. In addition to that, he delivered fuel for Weil Brothers, and later, moving on to work for Frederick County Products (Slaughterhouse). From there, he went to work for Hemp’s Meats in Jefferson in November 1968, where he was trained to do the slaughtering. He became well known as "the other Hemp." Almost 50 years later, he chose to put his career on hold due to health reasons. He enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He always had a smile on his face, especially when he was with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They truly brightened his lonely heart in the most recent years. He loved the outdoors where he could hunt and enjoy the wildlife. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He always looked forward to opening day of trout season which became a tradition with his family and extended family.

Over the past several years he became a well known face at the Buckeystown Pub. There he made many friends which he held very close to his heart. George was known for his big smile, witty humor, never ending generosity and huge heart. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, even when he was in need himself, yet he knew if he was being taken advantage of. When he was unable to help someone in need it would truly weigh heavy on him.
