Mr. George Andrew Yourick, Jr., 84, Frederick, died suddenly Monday, May 6. He was the loving husband of Lynne Kraft Yourick.
Born in Walsenburg, Colorado, on November 21, 1928, he was the son of the late George Andrew Yourick and the late Rosalie Marie George Yourick Haddan.
A devoted father, he is survived by four children—Jeffrey John Yourick and wife Debra, Dayton; Paul David Yourick and wife Joan, Albuquerque, New Mexico; Kimberly Carmel Yourick (Foster), Boyds; and Griffin Laurence Yourick, at home and a student at UMBC.
A proud grandfather, he is also survived by seven grandchildren—Kristen Marie Yourick, Miranda Rose Yourick, Andrew Paul Yourick, Isabelle Victoria Yourick, Alexander Tolstoi Foster, Jr., Iris Carolina Yourick, and John Taos Foster.
George was a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. His varied career included repossessing automobiles; employment at the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) in Human Resources; serving as Assistant Dean of Students at the University of California, Berkeley; followed by serving as Dean of Men and Dean of Students at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. He was a Ph.D. Candidate in Higher Education at the University of Michigan before returning to the AEC, which had become the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). He retired from DOE as a Personnel Management Specialist on December 31, 1995.
When son Griffin started school, George became active in the PTA. Up until his death he was still an active PTSA member at Frederick High School and served on the PTA Council of Frederick County even though Griffin graduated in 2010.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home and services will be private. Interment will take place in New Mexico at a later date.
