George Wood, Jr.

Mr. George P. Wood, Jr., 74, of Harpers Ferry, WV, formerly of Frederick, died Thursday, October 6, 2016 at Life in the Country Assisted Living in Brunswick.  He was the husband of the late Donna Jean Wood, who predeceased him on January 12, 2008.

Born November 27, 1941 in Grenada, MS, he was the son of the late George P. and Nina Belle (Perry) Wood.

George's first career (and love of his life) was with the Navy, where he was an air crew technician and instructor. He retired after proudly serving 20 years with the military. His military career allowed for many years of traveling. George and Donna settled with their family in the Frederick area in 1980.

His second work career was with commercial construction.

Upon his retirement, George was a very active volunteer with the Frederick community.

He is survived by three children, Cindy Wood and Brice Weddle of Harpers Ferry; George Wood, III, and wife, Patti, of Woodsboro; and Michelle Ferguson and husband, Paul, of Adel, Iowa; five grandchildren, Megan and Shaun Wood, Jacob Weddle, and Kyle and Zachary Ferguson; a brother, Sidney Wood and wife, Susan, of Little Rock, AK; nephews, Phillip and Brian Wood and their families; and cousins, Greg Perry and wife, Susan, and Margaret Perry.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 22 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick.
