Mr. George E. West, age 72, of Crestwood Village in Frederick Maryland, went home with our Lord on Saturday, May 5th 2012. He was the Husband of Barbara Lee Baker West. Born November 16, 1939 in Middle Point, Md., he was the son of the late George E. Suck and Caroline W. Kolb Suck. George was a graduate of Thurmont High School, class of 1957.
Mr. West served in the U.S. Air Force for four years where he learned the burner service trade. He later worked for Sinclair Oil and B.P. Oil and in 1974 started his own business – West’s Burner Service. In 1983 George and his wife Barbara started West Oil Inc. where they serviced local customers until 2005 when they retired and sold their business.
Mr. West belonged to the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jefferson, Md where he was currently serving as a member of the church council. He was a life member of the Elks Lodge 684 in Frederick and a life member of the American Legion Post 11. George was also a member of the Owls Club 4002 and the Moose Lodge 371.
George loved working in his gardens, especially tending to his roses. He recently had become the sexton of his church and was also a volunteer at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He had a passion for helping others. In 2006, he was part of a mission trip to Biloxi, MS with his church after Hurricane Katrina.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Lorie LaRosa and husband Anthony of Orlando Florida, and Denise Charron and fiancé Derrick Reynolds of Sherrills Ford, North Carolina, stepdaughter Kathy Wolford and husband Bernie of Frederick, and stepson David Zimmerman of Jefferson, grandchildren Ray Charron and Tabitha Charron of Florida, Brian Wolford of Frederick. MD, and great-grandson Hunter Lynch of Florida and several nieces and nephews, and one sister Jean Dearth of Dover, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by one son, George E. West Jr. and four sisters; Eileen Toms Welch, Gloria Lewis, Dorothy Hutzell, and Peggy Compton.
The West family will receive friends on Wednesday May 9th from 2-4 and 6 - 8 at the Stauffer Funeral Home located at 1621 Old Opossumtown Pike, Frederick MD . Funeral services will be held on Thursday May 10th at 11:00 at Stauffer Funeral Home. Pastor Katrina Holland, from St Paul Lutheran Church, will officiate. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery under the Dogwood tree.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the St Paul Lutheran Church in Jefferson, MD.
