Mr. George W. Sheetenhelm, 84, of Martinsburg WV., Formerly of Frederick, died on Tuesday August 24, 2010 at City Hospital Martinsburg. He was the husband of Grace Wilcoxon Sheetenhelm who he married on June 17, 1950.
Born on March 17, 1926 in Frederick, he was the son of the late Harry Gordon and Mattie Blanche Angleberger Sheetenhelm.
He served in the Army Air Corp. during WWII. After his service in WWII he was a member of the 302
nd
signal Corp in Frederick. He was a Mason and a 60 year member of the Philanthropic Lodge # 168 AF&AM New Market. He worked for over 30 years at Ft.Detrick in the transportation division. After his retirement from Ft.Detrick he drove a school bus for the Frederick County School System. He was a member of CalvaryUnitedMethodistChurch, Frederick. He enjoyed spending time playing Santa Claus for schools in New Market and various nursing homes and hospitals.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters; Pamela L. Tomblin and husband V. Robert of Charles Town WV., and Deborah E. Hammond and husband C. William of Falling Waters, WV. Grandchildren; Tiffany Drone and husband Glenn of Culpeper, VA., and Lori Orndorff of Falling Waters. Great Grandchldren; Brandon and Savana Drone and Avery Orndorff. One sister Betty Holtzople and husband Richard of Mt. Pleasant.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Sheetenhelm and brothers, Clark P. and Harry G. Sheetenhelm.
The
family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-8pm on Friday August 27, 2010, at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. A Masonic memorial service will held that evening at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday August 28 at the CalvaryUnitedMethodistChurch, 131 West Second Street, Frederick, MD, 21701. The Reverend Kenneth Dunnington and Reverend Harry Cole will officiate. Interment will follow in Mt.OlivetCemetery, Frederick.
