George Normand Proulx, 79, of Frederick, Maryland, passed away on Monday, November 04, 2024. He was the loving husband of Nancy Elizabeth (Hornby) Proulx.
Born on July 20, 1945, in Providence, RI, he was the son of the late Royal Proulx and Corinne (Monjeau) Proulx.
He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Forrestal. On July 29, 1967, a rocket fired from an F-4B Phantom struck an A-4 Skyhawk, sparking a devastating fire. The explosion spread fuel across the flight deck, killing 134 sailors and injuring 161. At the time, the Forrestal was conducting combat operations in the Gulf of Tonkin during the Vietnam War. Thankfully, George survived the disaster.
George was a passionate sports fan, taking his kids to New England Patriots training camp each year and attending Boston Celtics games with his son. He was always the first to support his children at their games and later cheered on his grandkids in their sports.
George was a kind and selfless man, always ready to give the shirt off his back or the last nickel in his pocket to those in need. Even in his final days, he put others first, always checking on their well-being and never wanting to be a burden. His infectious smile and quick wit brightened every room.
Married, for 54 years, to his best friend, Nancy, George cherished their time together, whether walking hand-in-hand or surrounded by family. In addition to his wife, Nancy, he will be missed by his son, Steven and daughter-in-law, Sarah, his daughter, Karen and son-in-law, Christian; granddaughters, Lindsey, Amber, and Clara; great-grandchildren, Abel and Avery; and siblings, Robert, Royal, Jean, Evelyn, and Lorraine; along with many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
There will be a private gathering to celebrate George’s life.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to your favorite charity.
