George Mills

George Andrew Mills, 82, of Sharpsburg, Maryland, passed away on Monday, March 28, 2011 at the Fahrney-Keedy Home & Village in Boonsboro.

Born on September 4, 1928 in Antietam Furnace, Maryland, he was the son of the late Noah Washington and Mabel Edith (West) Mills.

George worked throughout his life as a Dairy Farmer.  He was also employed for 11 years as a Brakeman with the B & O Railroad in Brunswick, Maryland.

He was a member of the Sharpsburg Church of the Brethren where he served as a Deacon, a member of the Church Board and also volunteered in many activities.

George and his wife Alice (Babe) spent 24 winters in Mesa, Arizona living at Carriage Manor and had traveled together visiting all 50 States in the Union.  He was a member of the Antietam/Dargan Ruritan Club serving as Treasurer for many years.  He was also a member of the Farm Bureau and was a 32nd Degree Mason with the Medairy Lodge #140 A.F. & A.M. in Williamsport, Maryland.

George enjoyed bowling and billiards having played on various teams in both Maryland and Arizona.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Alice E. (Myers) Mills; four children, Linda M. and her husband Dave Draper of Findlay, Ohio, Sharon M. and her husband Ron Ingram of Sharpsburg, Maryland, Earl E. Mills and his wife Kim of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, and Ellen Arlene and her husband Bob King of Sharpsburg, Maryland; 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

George was preceded in death by his sister, Edith Snyder.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 4, 2011 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland.  Rev. R. Thomas Fralin, Jr. will officiate.  Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Sharpsburg, Maryland.

Friends are invited to visit beginning at 9 a.m. on Sunday, April 3, 2011 at the funeral home where the family will be present to receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and  6 to 8 p.m. as well as one hour prior to the service on Monday.
