George Edward Hoffman, Jr., 76, of Walkersville, Maryland passed from this life on Friday, April 12, 2024. He was the loving husband of Susan Hoffman for 53 years. He fought a long battle against kidney failure, and was very grateful for the staff and their care at DaVita Frederick Dialysis Center.
Born on May 17, 1947, in Frederick, MD, he was the son of the late George E. Hoffman, Sr. and Catherine (Beard) Hoffman, and was also preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Jean Hoffman.
He was a graduate of Frederick High School and earned his Associates degree at Frederick Community College. His education prepared him for a long career with State Farm Insurance where he worked for over 35 years as an underwriter.
He proudly volunteered to serve in the United States Air force for four years, including a tour in Vietnam.
He served his community as a photographer with the Walkersville Volunteer Rescue Company 24, putting together memories for members to share of training and company events. He also enjoyed volunteering at the Walkersville Volunteer Fire Company 11 annual carnival in July.
He was an avid follower of sports and was a loyal Washington Commanders and Nationals fan. He fondly recalled memories of family gatherings, playing horseshoes and cards with close friends, working on his old "Ford Fairlane," and putting together music tracks of his favorite songs. He was not afraid to talk about politics and expressed a love of his country. He enjoyed collecting record albums and baseball cards in his youth, and traveling locally on vacation with his family. He loved his grandchildren and watching them play sports and participate in school activities, and was proud of their achievements. He loved a good cup of tea with a warm cinnamon roll.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Jennifer Hoffman and son Paul Hoffman (wife, Lori), and grandchildren Lukas and Ainsley Hoffman, all of Walkersville.
