George Caldwell, 75, of Walkersville, MD, died Sunday, November 1st, at home. He had been in poor health for many years.
He leaves his wife of 44 years, Nancy Jane; his nephew, Glenn Gardner, of Hyattsville, MD; his niece, Nancy Gardner, of Manhattan, NY; and his sister-in-law, Elsin Ann Perry, of Norris, TN.
He was predeceased by his sister, Catherine.
George, a Navy brat, was born in Shanghai to the late James Edward and Paula Caldwell and was raised in Newport, RI.
In 1956, he became a proud member of the United States Air Force and was stationed for four years with a Strategic Air Command base in Maine.
He was employed by Bechtel Corp for many years as a model maker and also worked for Fairchild.
After retirement, he enjoyed being a rural carrier at the Walkersville Post Office.
George discovered the world of model aviation at the age of nine and was a long time member of the Sky Lancers of Washington Club. He was known along the East Coast as a top-notch control-line flyer.
George will be greatly missed by his family and friends and his cat, Gizmo.
