George Howard “Corky” Battisfore, 79, of Frederick, Maryland, a passionate historian, lover of bagpipe music, and Harley-Davidson rider, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2024, at Sterling Care South Mountain in Boonsboro, Maryland. Born January 13, 1945, Corky had an inquisitive mind and a love for the past. He devoted much of his life to studying American history and exploring Civil War battlefields.
After a dedicated 34-year career as a cable splicing technician, Corky retired from Bell Atlantic. His work connected him with the community, and he took pride in his craft and contribution.
Harley-Davidson was always a big part of his life, a symbol of freedom and adventure. Long after he sold his bike, Corky would still drop by Battlefield Harley-Davidson in Gettysburg whenever he got the chance.
One of the most tender and defining stories of Corky’s life was his bond with his first and only dog, Pup. Pup was not just a companion but a beloved member of his family. So much so that when Pup passed, he could never bear to replace his loyal companion.
He is survived by his friend of 30 years, Michael Hunt and wife (Jennifer Yates) and their children, Michael Dylan Hunt, Richard Austin Hunt, and Emily Dellone, as well as his dear friends Keith and Lisa Stickley and family.
Corky will be remembered for his wit and unwavering passion for the things he loved. His legacy will live on in the stories he told and the people whose lives he touched. May he rest in peace, reunited with his beloved dog, Pup, and forever riding the great highways of eternity.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at Stauffer Funeral Homes, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick, MD.
