Gene W. Geil, 85, of Adamstown, passed from this life on Friday, December 28, 2018 at Buckinghams Choice in Adamstown.
He was the husband of Mary N. Geil, his wife of 53 years.
Born on October 12, 1933, in Great Bend, Kansas, he was the son of the late Earl W. and Merle Nairn Geil.
Raised on a farm in Great Bend, he was a 1951 graduate of Great Bend High School; he next earned a BS in mechanical engineering from Kansas State, a BS in Meteorology from Penn State and a Masters in Engineering Administration from George Washington University.
Gene served in the US Air Force from November 1958 to February 1960, as meteorologist in Japan attaining the rank of Captain.
Following his military service, he worked for NOAA and was part of the team that developed the AFOS system that automated the handling of weather information. He retired as a branch chief after 32 years.
In his spare time Gene enjoyed gardening, skiing, home maintenance, spending time at their vacation home in PA, and annual family get togethers.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two children: Bruce Geil and wife Virginia of Cooksville and Laura Geil of Frederick; siblings Joan Geil Hicks, Larry Geil and wife Joanne, sister in laws Angela Geil and Judie Geil.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Donald D Geil and Glenn M Geil
The family will receive friends from 2-4 PM on Saturday, January 5, 2019, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick.
A memorial service will be held at Buckingham's Choice at a later date.
Interment will be private.
