Garyfalia (Connie) Gates, 90, of Frederick, Maryland, passed from this life on Wednesday, February 14, 2024.
Born on August 13, 1933, in Athens, Greece, she was the daughter of the late George and Maria Hatzigeorgiou.
She was the beloved wife of the late Robert G. Gates and was also preceded in death by her son Robert G. Gates Jr.
Together Robert and Connie owned and operated the “Tap Inn Restaurant “located in SE Washington DC, and “Old Towne Seafood Shoppe” located on Main Street in Annapolis, MD with her husband for 35 years.
Connie was a choir member of the many Greek Orthodox Churches she attended in the Washington, DC Area. She was also very active in the Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society. In her spare time, she loved to paint landscapes of her hometown, Faliro, Greece.
Connie is survived by three daughters, Cynthia L. Schaefer, Maria M. Swift, and Terry J. Austin: son-in-law’s, Robert Schaefer, and Ralph Swift :11 grandchildren, 19 greatgrandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 10-11 am on Thursday, February 22, 2024, Saints Peter & Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 920 W. 7th Street in Frederick, MD where a mass will begin at 11 am. Father George Mastakas will be the celebrant. Interment will follow at Saint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Cemetery in Annapolis, MD.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Saints Peter & Paul Greek Orthodox Church.
