Gary Zimmerman, Sr.

November 7, 1946 — March 8, 2012

Gary L. Zimmerman, Sr., 65, of Boonsboro, Maryland, was birthed into heaven at his home on Thursday, March 8, 2012 while surrounded by his loving family.

Born on November 7, 1946 in Dargan, he is the son of the late John Will and Fannie Mae (Ebersole) Zimmerman.

Gary was a graduate of Boonsboro High School and provided service in the United States Army for six years, from 1965 until 1971.

He retired from Mack Truck after 31 years of service and was a member of the United Auto Workers Local 171.

Gary was a member of the Chestnut Grove Bible Church.

He was very active in Youth sports, having been one of six people to help start the Boonsboro Area Athletic Association.

Gary enjoyed hunting with his brother Dick, his son Gary and his nephews at their cabin, and also enjoyed crabbing with his brother Buck as well as racing. He will be fondly remembered for his love of woodworking and carpentry.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Donna L. Zimmerman; two sons and daughters-in-love, Gary L. Zimmerman, Jr. and Erica R. French of Boonsboro, and Corey L. and Valerie Zimmerman of Smithsburg, Maryland; two sisters, Bonnie L. Eichelberger and husband Gary of Shapsburg, and Betty J. Crampton of Hagerstown; two brothers, Harold R. Gay and wife Inez of Dargan, and Donnie L. Zimmerman and wife Nina of Hagerstown; one brother-in-law, Gary W. Smith and wife Carolyn of Brunswick, Maryland; and five grandchildren, Jessica, Jordan, Zackery, Sarah and his sugar plum Alexis Zimmerman. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sister, Armantha ""Mae" Jones and Ruth L. Cavender; and three brothers, William L. Gay, Maurice R. Gay, and John T. Zimmerman.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 12, 2012 at Chestnut Grove Bible Church, 3636 Chestnut Grove Road, Keedysville, Maryland. Pastor Dan Hanshew will officiate. Final resting place ceremonies will follow at Samples Manor Cemetery near Sharpsburg.

Friends may visit beginning at 12 noon Sunday, March 11, 2012 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, where the family will be present to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
