Gary Sweeney

Mr. Gary L. Sweeney, 68, of Thurmont passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2016, at his residence, surrounded by his family and friends. He was the husband of Dorothy Sweeney his wife of 50 years.

Born on September 18, 1948 in Thurmont he was the son of the late Paul I. and Frances G. Fuss Sweeney. He was a graduate of Thurmont High School. Gary retired from Redland Brick Company after 38 years of service. Gary was a member of Harriet Chapel Episcopal Church, 12625 Catoctin Furnace Rd., Thurmont, MD 21788. He was also a member of Blue Ridge Sportsman Club and was an avid hunter, he especially enjoyed hunting trips to Colorado with family for mule deer and elk. Gary was a "Little League" Baseball Coach for many years. He also enjoyed riding his 4-wheeler in Colorado with his grandson.

Gary was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother. Surviving in addition to his wife are two children: Judy A. Smith and husband Satch of Thurmont and Jeffrey L. Sweeney and partner Rob Brabant of Tamarac, FL; a grandson, Wayne Smith, Jr. and wife Chelsey of Thurmont; a great granddaughter, EllaMae Smith of Thurmont; a sister, Doris Smith and husband Gene of Thurmont, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Sweeney was preceded in death by a brother, Robert P. Sweeney. He will be greatly missed by his two companions: Buddy and Patch.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-9 PM on Thursday, October 27, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main St., Thurmont where service will begin at 8:00 PM with his pastor Rev. Sally Joyner-Giffin officiating. Interment will be private.
