Gary Slaughter

Mr. Gary Robert Slaughter, 63, of Knoxville, MD passed away at his home on Thursday, August 5, 2010. He was the husband for 39 years to Lorna Watson Slaughter.

Born on December 20, 1946 in Frederick, he was the son of the late Blanche Virginia (Brawner) and Garland Frederick Slaughter. Gary served his country in the US. Army, the US Navy and the National Guard. He was a Certified Financial Advisor formerly with Prudential Insurance Company.

An avid outdoors man, Gary loved to fish and hunt. While at home he enjoyed cooking and working in his garden. A former Little League coach, Gary also spent time researching his family’s genealogy.

He was a member of the Harpers Ferry Ward of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Besides his wife, survivors include his children; Laura A. Slaughter of Oslo, Norway, Mary Ellen Slaughter of Pittsburgh, PA and Michael Robert Slaughter and wife Julie of Woodsboro; his two loving grandchildren, Kristin and John Slaughter of Woodsboro; his siblings, Linda D. Snider and husband Irving of New Oxford, PA, Deborah A. Mason-Rooney and husband John of Frederick, Stephen F. Slaughter and wife Cathy of Middletown, and Larry G. Slaughter of Charlestown, WV; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sarah D. Slaughter Thompson.

The family will receive friends on Monday from 6 until 9 PM at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1100 North Maple Avenue, Brunswick, MD. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 10 ^th at 11:00 AM in the Harpers Ferry Ward of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 343 Carriage Drive, Harpers Ferry, WV 25425. Mr. Slaughter will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in Brownsville Cemetery.
