Garry Philip Haywood, 86 of Ijamsville, Maryland passed peacefully from this life on Saturday April 19, 2025 at his home. He was the husband of Kathleen (Kitti) Haywood with whom he enjoyed a 40-year marriage.
Born September 17, 1938 in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late Philip and Helen Haywood. Garry was a 1957 graduate of Bethesda Chevy Chase High School, then served in the Navy from 1962-1968, spending two years aboard the aircraft carrier Intrepid. He was the owner and operator of Auto Mech Transmission Service in Silver Spring, Maryland and Damascus Transmissions in Damascus, Maryland.
He is survived by his wife Kitti, children Nannette (Daniel) Landry, David Haywood, and Karen (Jason) Moore. Nine grandchildren Christian, Michael and Andrew Landry, Autumn and Austin Hughes, and Aiden Moore, Hayley, Logan and Brice Moore; two great granddaughters Kendyl and Harper Landry. Garry is also survived by brothers Herbert Haywood and Thomas (Brenda) Haywood. As well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews and true friends. He was preceded in death by 3-day old twin sons David and Dean Haywood.
A memorial gathering will be held at Stauffer Funeral Home 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy, Maryland. Tuesday May 6, 2025 at 2pm.
Internment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a much later date.
