Frederick Williford, Jr.

Frederick L. Williford, Jr., 58, of Walkersville, Maryland, passed from this life on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born on May 22, 1959, in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late Joan Marie (Long) Williford and Frederick Leighton and Phyllis L. Williford. Fred was raised in Rockville.  He joined the staff at the City of Rockville as a surveyor and over his 37 year career he worked his way up to the Senior Construction Inspector position in the Department of Public Works. He retired in July of 2015, having been very proud to have spent his professional life with one organization.

Throughout his life, Fred enjoyed a number of sports and especially enjoyed time on the golf course with Nancy and his sons. Although a fan of the Washington Nationals, Washington Capitals and Maryland Terrapins, he was an avid follower of the Washington Redskins, going so far as to create a burgundy and gold room in his basement to cheer on his favorite team.

Fred enjoyed time with friends and family, especially time at their condo in Ocean City and on ocean cruises. He particularly enjoyed spending time with his two sons.  He had a keen sense of humor and enjoyed making others laugh as much as he enjoyed a good laugh. His kindness extended to the many dogs he and Nancy loved over the years.

He is survived by wife of 35 years, Nancy Williford; two sons, Jeff Williford and wife, Carolyn, of Walkersville and Josh Williford of Frederick; sisters, Karen Williford and husband, Jim, of Edgewater, MD, and Connie Woods and husband, Paul, of Walkersville, and his brother, Brad Williford and wife, Maggie, of Holly Springs, NC; and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Williford attended the Walkersville United Methodist Church.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 18, 2018 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick.

Funeral services will take place at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2018, at Walkersville United Methodist Church, 22 Main Street in Walkersville. Pastor Richard Baker will officiate.  Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Frederick.
