Frederick John Wark, 87, of Silver Spring, MD and formerly of Boonsboro and Huntington Station, NY, died Monday, April 11, 2011 at the Washington Home in Washington, D.C.
Born June 1, 1923 in Huntington Station, New York, he was the son of the late Alexander and Rose (Von Fricken) Wark. His wife, Lois Eleanor (Bave) Wark, preceded him in death in 2006.
Mr. Wark was a veteran World War II having served with the United States Army. During his military service, he was the recipient of the Air Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon and two Bronze Stars.
Frederick retired in 1984 after 42 years of employment with Grumman Aircraft in Bethpage, New York.
He was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Hagerstown. He was also a member of the Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks Lodge #378 in Hagerstown, the Hagerstown Morris Frock American Legion Post #42, the Jephtha Masonic Lodge #494 A.F. & A.M. in Huntington Station, New York, the National Wood Carvers Association, the Boonsboro Historical Society and the Funkstown Senior Citizens. Frederick also volunteered at the Antietam National Battlefield in Sharpsburg.
He is survived by his two daughters, Vanda Wark of New York City, New York and Lori Anne Wark of Chevy Chase, Maryland.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. Dr. Renee Mackey will officiate. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery in Hagerstown. Military honors will be rendered by the Morris Frock American Legion Post #42.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to service on Saturday at the funeral home.
