Mr. Frederick J. Springer, 75, passed away Saturday, August 21, 2010 at his home at Buckingham’s Choice, Adamstown, MD. He was the husband of Margaret "Peggy" Smith Springer, his wife of 54 years.
Born October 12, 1934 in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Frederick J. and Mary Rose Carroll Springer.
Fred served his Country in the U.S. Air Force. He retired as a Systems Engineer from IBM. He served as President of Disabled Citizens of Frederick County and was the founding chairman of the Frederick County Commission on Disabilities. He worked diligently with local government agencies on accessibility issues. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council No. 11815, and served many years as a member of St. Ignatius of Loyola Parish Council.
He was a graduate of Villanova University (‘63). In 2002, he endowed the Fred J. Springer Chair in Business Leadership in the Villanova School of Business.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his seven children, Patricia Riter (John), Theresa Murray (Tim), Jeanne Kelly, Frederick Springer (Jane), Timothy Springer, Meg Timmons (Dan), and Marcy Shtatman (Kevy), nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren and his sister, Sister Marcella Springer, SSJ. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Carol Procopio, and two great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD on Thursday, August 26, from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Community, 4103 Prices Distillery Road, Ijamsville, MD., on Friday, August 27, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Michael Jendrek and Rev. Lawrence Frazier serving as celebrants.
Interment St. Denis Cemetery, Havertown, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702 or to the Building Fund, St. Joseph-On-Carrollton Manor, 5843 Manor Woods Rd., Buckeystown, MD.
