Freda N. Shriver, 88, formerly of 6 East D St., Brunswick went peacefully home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at Homewood at Crumland Farms, Frederick, MD surrounded by her daughters.
Born on May 7, 1920, in Brunswick, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Mamie Gaither.
Freda dedicated her life to raising her daughters to know the Lord and have a strong faith. One of her greatest joys was in helping to care for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. After her children were grown, Freda realized her desire to become a Licensed Practical Nurse, and loved working with the elderly at Vindabona Nursing Home where she served with compassion, always putting the patient first.
She was a charter member of Faith Baptist Church in Brunswick. Freda served her Lord for many years as a Sunday School teacher, a leader in the Women's Missionary Union and leading the Sunbeams children's ministry.
For 67 years, she was the devoted wife of James S. Shriver who died November 9, 2007. She is survived by her three daughters, Nancy S. Virts, wife of the late Gary Virts of Brunswick, Janet S. Johnston and husband Frank of Chambersburg, PA and Katherine Shriver and husband Fred Gang of Winchester, VA; 3 grandchildren: Chris Chevalier of Hagerstown, Susan Miller of Jefferson and James Johnston of Chambersburg; 4 great-grandchildren: Matthew and Kathryn Miller of Jefferson and Daniel and Joshua Chevalier of Hagerstown; 3 sisters Pauline Leach of Silver Spring, MD, Doris Cannon of Frederick, MD and Rita Webber of Brunswick; and 2 brothers Norman and Delphy Gaither, both of Brunswick.
She was preceded in death by her 3 brothers, Benjamin Gaither of Silver Spring, MD, and Harold and Kenneth Gaither, both of Brunswick, MD and her sister June Keller of Brunswick.
Visitation: The Family will receive friends from 6 to 9 pm on Friday, July 11,at Stauffer Funeral Home,1100 North Maple Avenue, Brunswick, Maryland
Services:
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 12 at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Edward Jordan officiating.
Interment will take place in Lovettsville Union Cemetery with Roy Cannon, Mike Eshbaugh, Archie Quesenberry, Gary Balty, Robert Wilt and Kevin Fouche as pallbearers.
