Fred Robert Maxey of Wolfsville, MD went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, September 18, 2023. He is survived by his loving wife, best friend, and talented adventure partner of 37 years, Andrea.

Fred was born on October 8, 1963 in Saratoga Springs, NY to Fred and Sandra Maxey. He was a 1981 graduate of Traip Academy in Kittery, ME. Later he received his Associates Degree from Hagerstown Community College and his Bachelor's Degree from Shepherd University. 

In 1987 Fred began his career as a Firefighter for the Montgomery County Department of Fire and Rescue Services. He retired in 2013 after achieving the rank of Master Firefighter/Paramedic. During his career, he was a member of the Urban Search and Rescue Maryland Task Force 1. In addition to his career, Fred also volunteered at Walkersville Volunteer Fire Company, Walkersville Rescue Company, Brunswick Rescue Company, and Wolfsville Volunteer Fire Company. After retirement he enjoyed jobs at Rosehill Manor and Fourth Dimension Fun Center. 

Fred was a member of Potomac Believers Fellowship in Knoxville, MD, where he served as a deacon and then elder for over 30 years. Fred was passionate about missions work and over the years went on mission trips to Haiti, Ghana, and Uganda. Care Net Pregnancy Center of Frederick is a local ministry where Fred volunteered for several years. He also enjoyed volunteering in medical at Christian music festivals Creation Festival and Uprise Festival. For many seasons he volunteered as a trainer for the Frederick Rugby Club, West Carroll Marauders Rugby, and Mount Saint Mary’s Rugby.

When Fred wasn’t volunteering his time for others he absolutely loved sailing on his boat, Legacy; beach time; cooking, especially sourdough bread and cinnamon rolls; and exploring new places. 

Fred passionately loved his family and desired to leave them a Godly legacy. Fred and Andrea have four children, Rebekah A. Lawall and husband, Chad; Sarah E. Ponstein and husband, Brent:  Adam P. Maxey and wife, Kelsie; and Jordan L. Arney and husband, Aaron. He was PopPop to eight grandchildren Connor, Reagan, Mackenzie, Genevieve, Kayleigh, Elliana, Emberly, Olivia, and a few grand-pups. 

Fred is also survived by his mother, Sandra Maxey; mother-in-law, JoAnne Fleming; siblings Peter Maxey (Sandra), Karen Maxey, Timothy Maxey (Katherine), Kathryn Daut (Lincoln), Kevin Maxey (Will), Alexandra Bowersox (Chris), Margaret Knupp (Rich), April Miller (Todd); many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. 

He is preceded in death by his father, Fred Maxey Jr; his father-in-law, William Fleming; his grandparents; grandbabies who went to be with Jesus much too soon; and his beloved dog, Grace. 

Matthew 28:19-20 “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Visitation will be on Saturday, September 23, 2023 from 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM at Potomac Believers Fellowship, 3525 Petersville Road, Knoxville, MD 21758.

A Celebration of Fred’s Life will be held on Sunday, September 24, 2023 at 2:00 PM at the Walkersville Volunteer Fire Department Hall, 79 West Frederick Street, Walkersville, MD 21793. A reception will follow. "Please wear your Hawaiian shirts/beachy attire."
