Frederick

Mr. Franklin “Butch” Elmer Stockman Jr., 82, of Frederick, died peacefully amongst family on Saturday, Apr. 22, 2023 at his home. He was the husband of the late Patricia “Pat” Stockman for 57 years, who predeceased him in 2016.

Born on July 12, 1940, in Frederick, MD, he was the son of the late Franklin “Buck” Stockman Sr. and Marie Stockman (Grove) and had the fortune to also be loved by his late step-parents Benny Grove Sr. and Betty Stockman.

A perennial resident of Frederick, MD, Butch and his beloved Pat set roots early in life that blossomed into loving family and close friends. He and Pat enjoyed gatherings of all kinds, whether that be going out to social functions with friends, or hosting family for a birthday or holiday. He loved the beach and his entire family has numerous fond memories of family summer vacations spent with “Ganny” and “Poppy/Bop” at their place in Ocean City, MD. Professionally, Butch was an educator and committed many years of service to students of all kinds throughout the Frederick area. Throughout his 30+ year career, he served as an English teacher, adult evening high school teacher, correctional facilities educational instructor, and high school guidance counselor. His passion for teaching, concern for his students’ well being, and positive outlook were felt by all who had the pleasure of working with him. In his retirement, he spent his time relaxing at the beach, watching his Orioles and Ravens, and engaging in the busy lives of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Michael S. Stockman and his wife Teresa, of Frederick, and Kelly M. Spurrier and her husband Mark, of Frederick; grandchildren, Ryan Spurrier and his wife Heather, Lukas Spurrier and his wife Nazie, Dr. Sara Stockman and her husband John Watts, and Emily Stockman; and great-grandchildren, Phoenix, Philip and Aiden.

He is also survived by his brother Benny Grove III and his wife Denise; brother-in-law, Frederick “Biff” Burk and his wife Donna; nieces Tomara Arrington, April Stites, and Jessica Silberzahn; beloved companion of six years Ruth Galante, extended family and many friends.
