Mr. Franklin E. Smith died peacefully at his home January 30, 2016. A lifelong resident of Frederick County, Frank was born on September 26, 1929, to the late Harry C. and Abigail (Trout) Smith.
Frank graduated from Walkersville High School in 1946. He was a meter reader for Potomac Edison before he joined the Air Force in the air weather service. After the service, Frank managed Southern States Cooperatives throughout this region. His final career was with the U.S. Postal Service, mainly as a rural mail carrier. He retired from the Post Office after 36 years of service.
Frank married Nancy Lee (Webber) Smith in 1950. He is survived by his wife and their four children: Melissa Moller, Allen Smith (wife Sharon), and Amy Boroughs (husband David), all of Frederick County. His daughter, Martha McNally (husband Jamie) resides in North Carolina. His surviving grandchildren are Gina Williams, Jennifer Klipp, Mallory Smith, Grant Moller, Abigail Boroughs, Grace Boroughs, Corey McNally and Michael McNally. William Smith is Frank’s surviving brother, and he resides in Harrisonburg, Virginia with his wife, Karen (Ayersman) Smith. Six great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins (with special cousin Libby Trout) also survive Frank. Predeceasing him are granddaughter Rebecca Klipp, brother Robert Smith and his wife, Dottie Smith, and son-in-law Henry (Hank) Moller.
