Franklin Lum

November 16, 1932 — February 6, 2013

Franklin D. Lum, 80, of Boonsboro, Maryland, passed from this life while surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at the Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, Maryland.  The love of his life for 56 years, Mary Ann (Gantz) Lum, preceded him in death on Thursday, just one week ago.

Born on November 16, 1932, in Boonsboro, he was the son of the late Calvin Milo and Lenora Kathleen (Reeder) Lum.

Frank attended and was a member of the Boonsboro High School Class of 1950.

He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, having served as a Sergeant during the Korean Conflict.

Along with his wife, he was the co-owner and operator of the Boonsboro Exxon/Amoco and Frank's Used Cars, Inc. in Boonsboro.

Frank was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Boonsboro, the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks Lodge #378 in Hagerstown, the Moose Lodge, the North American Gun Club, the Voiture Nationale, the Washington County Republican Club, the Elephant Club, the Korean War Veterans Association, the National Rifle Association, and life member of the Clopper-Michael American Legion Post #10 in Boonsboro.  He was instrumental in the start of the original Boonsboro Ambulance Club and served as the Assistant Fire Chief.

He will be remembered for his love of NASCAR and his times spent racing the #2 and #10 cars at the Hagerstown Speedway and other local race tracks.

He is survived by his daughter, Marilee E. Kerns and husband Jeff of Boonsboro; his son, Franklin C. Lum and wife Amy of Boonsboro; and two sisters, Janice L. Miller of Boonsboro, and Kathleen L. Rudesill of Middletown, Maryland.  He is also survived by three grandchildren, Nick Lum, Emily Lum, and Logan Kerns.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William C. Lum.

A celebration of Frank's life journey will take place at 2 p.m. on Monday, February 11, 2013, at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro.  Rev. Joseph I. Donovan, III will officiate.  Final resting place ceremonies will follow at the Boonsboro Cemetery.  Military Honors will be rendered by the Clopper-Michael American Legion Post #10 of Boonsboro.

Friends are invited to visit at the funeral home beginning at 12 noon on Sunday, February 10, 2013 where the family will be present to receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m.

The family expresses their sincerest appreciation of everyone who offered support at the recent service for Mary Ann.  They encourage everyone to make a memorial donation in Frank's memory to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Avenue, Hagerstown, Maryland, 21742.
