Francis "Frank" Olson

Francis "Frank" E. Olson, 73, of Sharpsburg, Maryland, passed from this life on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown.

Born on August 14, 1941, in Ashland, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Ernest and Mary (Ahrensfield) Olson.

He was a veteran of the United States Army, where he served as a paratrooper for 3 1/2 years.

Frank was an employee with METRO, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, retiring in 1986.

He was a member of the Clopper-Michael American Legion Post 10 in Boonsboro, the AMVETS Post 2 in Frederick, the Montgomery-Cornerstone Lodge 195 AF & AM Masonic Lodge in Rockville, and the Sharpsburg Bible Church.  He also served as a Webelo and Boy Scout Leader for Troop 295 in Rockville for many years.

Frank will be greatly missed by his family and friends, and he will always be fondly remembered for his love of fishing, woodworking, and spending time with his children and their families.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Shirley (Rogers) Olson; five children, Karen Barnes and husband Jimmy, Sharon Schroebel and husband Peter, Randy Olson and wife Kye Sook, Carl Olson and wife Thuy, and Greg Olson and wife Shirlene; and one sister, Rose Marie Geno.  He is also survived by ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Caroline Sutton.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at the Sharpsburg Bible Church located at South Potomac and West Antietam Street in Sharpsburg.  Rev. Gene W. Renner will officiate.
