Francis "Frank" Joseph Colantuno, 70, of Westfield, Pennsylvania, died on Sunday, August 1, 2010 at the Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown, Maryland.
Born on June 22, 1940 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Francis J. and Marie (Castagliuolo) Colantuno.
He attended St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Westfield, Pennsylvania.
Frank was a graduate of the Pennsylvania Military College in Chester, Pennsylvania.
He entered into a distinguished military career serving as an officer in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Soldier's Medal and the Combat Infantryman's Badge.
Mr. Colantuno dedicated his life to public service and had been employed as the Director of the Task Force on Addiction for the City of Philadelphia. He later worked in Chester County, Pennsylvania as the Director of the Council on Addictive Diseases. Frank was one of the original founding board members of the Pennsylvania DUI Association.
Frank was a loving father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by his children, Marliese and her husband (Martin) Roth of Frederick, Maryland, Paul Colantuno and his wife Jodi of Boonsboro, Maryland, Mark Colantuno and his wife Stephanie of Glenmoore, Pennsylvania and Thomas Colantuno and his wife Nicole of Columbia, Maryland; his sister, Joan Trago of Florida; and his brother, Stephen Colantuno of Downington, Pennsylvania. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11.m. on Saturday, August 7, 2010 at Holy Family Catholic Community, 7321 Burkittsville Road, Middletown, Maryland. Father J. Kevin Farmer will officiate. Interment will be planned for a later date at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, Pennsylvania.
The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. on Friday, August 6, 2010 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland. A vigil service will take place at 7 p.m.
