Francis J. Mullen

Francis J. Mullen, Sr., 79, of Frederick, passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2024 at his home. He was the husband of the late Maurie Schmitt Mullen. Born on June 15, 1945, in McSherrystown, PA, he was the son of Lloyd Joseph Mullen and Agnes E. (Lawrence) Mullen.

Mr. Mullen was a 1963 Graduate of York Catholic High School. He entered the US Navy in 1963, serving until 1967, and later worked as a photographer for Nova Color Labs from 1980 to 1992, and National Institutes of Health from 1993 to 2016. He was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Catholich Church and enjoyed photography, computers, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his children: Nancy Eileen Sohm (Mullen) and husband William, Francis Joseph Mullen, Jr., and Andrew Lawrence Mullen; grandchildren: Victoria Sohm, Lauren Sohm, Alex Sohm, Sophia Mullen, Zachary Mullen, Pierce Mullen and Dylan King. He is also survived by a sister, Rita Sagedy of McSherrystown, PA.

The family will receive friends on Monday, December 16 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. A Memorial Mass will be offered on Tuesday, December 17 at 11:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 116 E. Second Street, Frederick, Father Javier Fuentes officiating. Interment will follow at St. John's Catholic Cemetery.
